Job description
About SkyGeo
SkyGeo helps companies and governments understand how the ground is moving so they can act earlier, manage risk better and protect critical assets. Our work sits at the intersection of satellite monitoring, geotechnical interpretation and practical decision support. As our content output grows, we need someone who can work closely with the CEO and internal experts to turn complex technical knowledge into strong, structured and credible content for the market, for clients and for internal use.
The role
As Geoscience Technical Writer & Content Manager, you will lead the development of SkyGeo’s technical and thought-leadership content. This is a writing-led role for someone who combines a relevant geoscience or engineering background with professional writing experience. You will help shape technical papers, case studies, thought-leadership articles, web content, customer-facing explainers and internal knowledge assets. You will also help plan content priorities, build a more usable knowledge base, and ensure the company’s technical communication remains accurate, clear and commercially relevant. This role will work more directly with the CEO and senior subject matter experts than a typical marketing role.
What you will do
Technical writing and thought leadership
· Write and develop high-quality technical and thought-leadership content including technical papers, blogs, white papers, case studies, explainer pages, brochures and web copy.
· Work closely with the CEO and subject matter experts to turn technical ideas, research and project knowledge into strong written content.
· Translate complex InSAR, geotechnical and ground-movement topics into formats that are clear, accurate and useful for technical and non-technical professional audiences.
· Conduct interviews with internal experts, partners and clients to develop original content grounded in real work and real outcomes.
Content planning and knowledge management
· Help define and maintain a practical content plan tied to business priorities, research themes, sector focus areas and commercial opportunities.
· Own and improve SkyGeo’s library of written technical assets, ensuring materials are current, well-structured and easy to find and reuse.
· Identify content gaps and recommend what should be created, updated, retired or repurposed.
· Support stronger internal reuse of technical content across marketing, proposals, events and sales enablement.
Technical communication and visual explanation
· Create or support the creation of diagrams, annotated visuals, structured figures and explanatory content that help make complex topics easier to understand.
· Work with internal experts to ensure visuals and wording support scientific integrity rather than oversimplifying it.
· Contribute to customer-facing and internal training materials where useful.
Website and content governance
· Help maintain the technical quality and consistency of website content.
· Act as a guardian of tone, terminology, structure and accuracy across technical written materials.
· Support adaptation of content for different sectors, regions and use cases.
· Liaise with distributed experts to ensure consistency in terminology and messaging.
Job requirements
What you’ll bring
· 5+ years of experience in technical writing, technical editing or scientific content development.
· A relevant academic background in geoscience, geology, geotechnical engineering, remote sensing, civil engineering, earth observation or a closely related field (MSc or PhD in technical domain is a must).
Strong ability to understand complex technical concepts and communicate them clearly without diluting their accuracy.
· Experience creating structured long-form content such as technical papers, research-driven articles, case studies or technical documentation.
· Excellent written English.
· Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple content inputs and deadlines.
· Confidence working directly with senior technical stakeholders.
Big bonus
· Technical drawing or diagramming skills.
· Experience creating figures, cross-sections, annotated schematics or other technical visuals.
· Experience in InSAR, geomatics, GIS, mining, infrastructure monitoring or related fields.
· Experience supporting training content or customer education.
